Save the Asian Elephant Projects
Thank you to everyone that took part in the Save the Asian Elephant (STAE) holiday project. The projects were fantatic, I hope you were able to view them all in the school hall before they went off to be judged. We were delighted to have had five selected as winners in their catergory. They were:
Asian elephant’s habitat and how we can protect it. Carolina Y6 – Gold award winner; Amina Y6 – Highly commended.
Asian elephants and how they get food. Kavitha Y4 – highly commended.
Baby elephant, Oliver Reception – Silver award winner; Kathirravan Reception- Highly commended.
The winners and their parents were invited to attend a prize giving at the town hall in Ealing on Friday 18th March. The event raised awareness of the plight of the Asian elephant and was attended by the mayor some other local dignitaries and celebrities.
Petts Hill won the overall school award for the collective entry of all the children. We sent in about 160 entries from reception up to year 6. The school was congratulated by the judging panel. They wrote, Congratulations to the pupils, teachers and parents of Petts Hill Primary School on winning this special award. STAE and our judges were extremely impressed with the high quality of entries and the clear enthusiasm and concentration on the project that was demonstrated by the children. It was clear that there had been a great deal of discussion and the children had shown a good understanding of the issues facing Asian elephants.
Fathers Reading Every Day (FRED) is a simple, effective intervention that gets Dads reading to their children. Fathers who are involved in their children’s early education have a significant impact on attainment and on future aspiration. Several reliable studies have shown that high levels of interest by a father in his child’s schooling and education are associated with improved outcomes, including:
- Better exam / test / class results
- Higher educational qualifications
- Greater progress at nursery/school
- Better behaviour.
We are launching FRED at Petts Hill on Thursday 21st April at 9am. Look out for further information after the holiday.
Holiday Play Scheme
I am pleased to be able to inform you that we are hosting an Easter holiday play scheme here at Petts Hill for boys and girls in the local area. The play scheme is being run by Ealing Play Service.

The play scheme will offer children a range of fun activities daily with a variety of trips all included in the price. All children need to do is bring a packed lunch with them. Places are allocated on a first come first served basis. Registration forms can be obtained from the school office or can be found on Ealing’s website.
Sport Relief Day
For Sport Relief Day this year we ran two intra schools competitions, one in each team, upper and lower.
Upper/KS2 Games Competition
The children spent the morning in their teams, Aintree, Cheltenham Newmarket and Windsor. Each team was subdivided into years 3&4, 5&6 smaller teams. They then participated in a tournament playing against the other teams at New Age Kurling and Hoop Ball. This was a fantastic morning where the children had the ability to shine not only in their sporting prowess but demonstrate the values that the games encourage. For this event adults were particularly looking out for children excelling in the value of respect. Newmarket were our winning team this year.
Lower/KS1 team Games Competition
The children were in mixed class teams and rotated across four activities including; throwing, skipping activities and an obstacle course. Reception class made up their own obstacle course. Our Sports Ambassadors from KS2 helped the younger children by leading the groups.
Thank you to everyone that took part in Sport Relief Day. We raised £79 to support their work.
This term has seen Petts Hill attend a Year 3&4 Change for Life event. We have entered the following competitions:
- Year 5&6 Football League
- Year 3&4 Kurling competition.
- Year 5&6 Basket Ball competition where we won the Respect award.
Next term we shall be entering: Summer Athletics year 5&6; Tennis year 3&4, Multi-skills year 2&3; Quad Kids Year 5&6 and a Botcha tournament.
